We handle repairs, upkeep, landscaping, and building safety so you don’t have to. You focus on your life — we take care of the property.
We maintain the exterior of the property — including lawns, trees, parking areas, and cleanliness — so your environment stays safe, quiet, and well-kept.
Access shared spaces including a resident lounge, laundry facilities, and outdoor seating — simple, clean areas designed for comfort and everyday use.

Carter Keys Independent Living was founded in Meridian, Mississippi by Carter — a lifelong Mississippian who recognized a growing need for simple, stable housing.
Veterans returning home, individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, seniors living on fixed incomes, and everyday community members were all facing the same problem: finding safe, affordable housing without unnecessary restrictions.
Carter Keys was created to be different.
No medical oversight. No institutional environment. No disruptions to your independence.

Carter
Owner & Property Manager. A lifelong Mississippian, she runs daily operations, approves visitor requests, and personally ensures every room is ready for move‑in. She is not a nurse, not a social worker, and not a caregiver – she is a housing provider who cares deeply about your freedom.

Who can live at Carter Keys?
Veterans, reentry citizens (returning from incarceration), seniors, and any local community member seeking independent housing. We welcome all backgrounds, but require respectful, responsible tenancy.
Do you provide medical or nursing care?
No. We do not provide any medical, nursing, or personal care services. Residents are fully independent and arrange their own healthcare if needed.
What Size Rooms are available?
We are Shared and Private Rooms.
Are pets allowed?
No pets are allowed. This includes dogs, cats, birds, and all other animals.
Service animals are permitted only as required by law. Emotional support animals are not accepted — contact management for full policy details.
Can family or friends visit me?
Yes — but all visitors must be approved in advance by management.
Unannounced guests are not allowed to ensure safety and stability for all residents.
What are your office hours?
We are open 7 days a week, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Do you provide help with housekeeping or errands?
No, but we can connect you with trusted third-party providers.
You will contract with them directly — we do not manage or supervise these services.
Is the property near public transportation?
Yes. We are located near Highland Park in Meridian, with access to nearby bus stops, grocery stores, and the VA clinic.
How do I apply?

We do not accept online applications.
I am reentering from prison and have no rental history. Can I still apply?
Yes. We work with reentry citizens.
You may be asked for a plan and references, but past incarceration alone does not disqualify you.
Are there extra fees for third-party services?
Yes — but those are set by the third-party providers.
Carter Keys does not charge, mark up, or profit from those services.
